Day 5: Designing Your Algorithm

You will read and write about algorithms today before being charged to design your algorithms. A hallmark of good reading and writing is being able to read and write across multiple texts. The following paragraphs were written within 30 minutes after you read two texts - The Dangers of Big Data: How society is being controlled by Mathematical Algorithms and Algorithm for success.

Algorithm- a process or set of rules to be followed in calculations or other problem-solving operations, especially by a computer.  In the text “The Dangers of Big Data” I learned that Law enforcement is using two computer algorithms named predictive policing and recidivism risk scoring. It helps them make decisions about which neighborhoods the police should target. Algorithms also help the legal system decide who should go to jail longer.  In the second text “Algorithm for success” the author believes that if you can change your mindset, you change yourself. The algorithms that law enforcement is using are very effective and I think they help the city. A plan with goals is very important too achieve what you’re striving for. The author said, “ A goal without a plan is just a wish”. Everybody needs a plan and a backup plan incase your first plan doesn’t go as planned in order to accomplish your goal. Narrow your goals. Studies show that setting goals is itself a mini-algorithm for success.

Algorithms are a set of rules to be followed in calculations or other problem-solving operations, especially by a computer. In the texts the dangers of big data I learn that algorithms are now in charge of making important decisions that affect our daily lives and that law enforcement is now using two computer algorithms , I also learn that Algorithm for success its about spending more time on the things that really matter to you so that you get what you want out of life and that if you change your mindset, you change yourself. I disagree because they can use algorithms against us , and send us to prison for more time cause of the bad record we got … I agree with the engage because if you put your mind on something you’ll have 80% you’ll accomplish it, just like if you don’t got no motivation you won’t be able to succeed without the motivation

Algorithms is a process or set of rules to be followed in calculations. Algorithm is a  new way of making decisions. in the text the dangers of big data and the algorithms of success. I learned that mathematical computer algorithms are now in charge of making important decisions that affect our daily lives , which would previously have been made by humans. I learned that big data is a way faster way to analyze a large amount of data without requiring humans. I also learned two things about algorithm for success. A research team found that subjects who flew in the realistic simulator showed improvement in their vision. And also multiple studies show that setting goals is itself a mini-algorithm for success. I disagree with this text for the simple fact they are going to let computers decide our fate. My opinion is that the important decisions affecting our every day lives should be made by humans. In my opinion setting goals for yourself and planning your life is important be cause a goal without a plan is just a wish.

Algorithm is a mathematical system that set up everything into numbers to put everyone in their right place. In the text it say “Algorithm is a mathematical computer in charge of making important decisions that can or will affect our daily lives, which would previously have been made by humans.” Knowing that this process is available and taking away jobs from civil citizens makes me upset because people always want to stop our income but don’t give more man-made jobs. Even the justice systems is using this mathematical method. I thinks that’s how they label all American citizens with criminal backgrounds as statistics.  I don’t like the way algorithms are being used because it's labeling us a numbers instead of humans.

Algorithms are now In charge of making important decisions that affect our daily lives. Computer algorithms don’t have feelings or an agenda. Law enforcement is now using two computer algorithms. A Person’s score on an algorithm can determine who gets a job or who goes to jail. However , the scores and how they are used are not always fair. My opinion about algorithms is I Really Don’t Care about It Because There’s Nothing I Can Do To Stop It Or Change It Only Thing I Can Do Is Stay Positive.
